Try it you may like it

September 21, 2009

So now if you read my last blog you may be giving some casual or serious  thought to examining what it takes to even learn the game.

I sadly did not do this until I was 49, which by the way coincided with my marriage to Joe, an avid golfer. In fact, Joe cautioned me many times in our  six month courtship that he golfed on weekends and every other possible four hour break in his life. I answered that I thought that was great as I was busy in my own business and as an entrepreneur I worked all the time.  That was enough to convince him and on April 14,1986 he asked me to marry him.

Not until we were married six months later did I find myself on the course with him.  I was witnessing first hand his passion for the game and so I agreed to cautiously try it.  He gave me a set of his clubs and said the magic words after my first several swings, “ you are a natural at this game”

So how do you know you can or can’t learn the  game if you don’t try it ?

Why is golf important in a Woman’s Career

September 20, 2009

There are many reason why the sport of golf as a business tool is a key factor in the success of your career.

Here are just a few:

1. Golf gives women equal footing with men who are already spending quality time with clients in this manner. And they are making big deals. We can too.

2. Golf transcends job titles/positions and age. You don’t have to be a great golfer to play your game, you just need to be aware and knowledgeable. More about that later.

3. Golf finally allows you to participate in those business outings, locally and at a national  level. You know the ones that someone invites you too attend and you have to decline.

4. Golf gives you an opportunity to spend time with existing and prospective clients so that you can build relationships. That of course means potential new business and helps you solidify existing business.

Golf fear

September 18, 2009

This is my first ever blog about boardroom golf.

I have that paralyzing feeling in the pit of my stomach that I had the very first day when I  stepped up to my very first tee box, to swing a club and hopefully hit the little ball up and out into the air toward a mouse-like hole hundreds of yards away.  The feeling is all about where  do I  begin, and how do I explain to a woman who is intelligent, professionally savvy and not necessarily athletic that she has missed one of the  greatest  opportunities of her career if she has not learned the game of golf.

So in the blogs that follow I will begin to share my passion for the game, the process that lead me to the game hoping that you will communicate with me. I am eager for your comments and anticipating that you will join me on the golf course one day.

A few thoughts about golf;   it’s a two-step dance, it’s child’s play, sex matters in the game.

Boardroom Golf Launched!

September 3, 2009

Boardroom Golf is focused on helping women and men propel their professional growth and business success through the use of golf. The business uses web, blogs, groups, webcasts, articles and live seminars to convey the social and business benefits of golf, how to strategically implement golf as a career and leadership tool, best ways to get started, rules and golf etiquette and encouragement along the way.

Seeking interviews

One of the first goals of Boardroom Golf is to interview professional women, men and celebrities on how golf has helped their professional career growth. Participants would be willing to be interviewed by Joan Cavanaugh, past-president of the Executive Women’s Golf Association Foundation, speaker and leading authority on how the game of golf helps executives reach the boardroom.

Seeking partnerships

Boardroom Golf is seeking partnerships with women’s organizations, industry associations, corporate human resource departments, business owners, corporate executives, networking organizations, women’s groups and woman-owned businesses.
